At the request of the United States, Albania will send to Iraq an operational military unit, a unit that will part in ground operations against militants of the terrorist organization ISIS.
Defence Minister Kodheli informed in the security committee that a request was sent to the Iraqi government to provide credentials.
Later in the Assembly will be presented a draft law that will define the details, time and number of Albanian soldiers that will join other units of the Allied coalition anti ISIS. These troops will be placed on a military base in Iraq.The participation of the Albanian military unit in the global coalition against ISIS is voluntary, although comes after a request from the United States.
The troops have been engaged for a long time in Iraq, but mainly in the operations of preserving military objectives or escorting convoys.
