Over 2,000 years mosaic of swastika revealed in Dyrrachium

In Durres is revealed to the public a rare mosaic, which for a long time has been hidden under a building, between the sewage and garbage.

It is about the Mosaic of Meander with swastika (symbol of good fortune, or swastika), which is the newest archaeological destination of the city of Durres.

For the restoring of the dignity of this monument it took a full two years of work, and in 2015 the "Mosaic Building Ruins" was declared a cultural monument of the first category in a collaboration between Durres DRKK and the Albanian Institute of Monuments.

The ruins of this ancient dwelling are found during an excavations of emergency in 2005-2006. The general plan of waste, consisting of 12 different size environments associated with some constructive interventions is carried out by three successive periods of time. The construction techniques and the archaeological material that accompanies this construction have determined the period between IV and III BC, as at the time of the installation of this structure.
