While the Government is in negotiations with Tirana International Airport for the removal of exclusivity of international flights from Rinas, it seems that in Albania will be build a new airport. National Registration Center registered a new company called Saranda International Airport.
The company is owned for 34 percent from a citizen named Donald Shena, while 66 per cent of its shares belonging to an US company known as American Capital GroupIn the registration document of the company is specified that its object will be air flight services and facilities. "The target of company is conducting airport services, processing of aircraft, passenger service, baggage and cargo, bar - restaurants and other function facility," is written on the document.
Since 2001, when the government of Fatos Nano signed the concession of Rinas, Albania international flights have been the monopoly of this airport. After 15 years of operation, it seems that finally the German company that manages the airport has agreed to cede its monopoly of international flights, thus paving the way for the construction of other airports in Albania.
