Kosovo authorities recall the martyrdom of Jashari family

Eighteen years after the murder of 50 members of the Jashari family by Serbian security forces, the outgoing president of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, remembered and honored "all those who have fallen on the altar of freedom".

"Today is the day when we think about the future of new generations, leaving aside political differences, renouncing tempers and egos and working hard for the realization of our aspirations for a developed economy that keeps young people within the state, a state of law, where everyone is equal before the law, for a prosperous country for each citizen," said Jahjaga at the Epopee of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

The event, which started today and lasts three days, is held in memory of Adem Jashari, also known as the legendary commander of the KLA, and his family.

"The sacrifice of the legendary commander Adem Jashari and his family merges centuries of goals for freedom and independence," said the new Kosov President Hashim Thaci. According to Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, this day testifies the sacrifice of many generations for freedom.
