Former British Ambassador: Why not, Albania and Kosovo to Join in one State

Ivor Roberts and the Map of Great Albania

Former British Ambassador to Serbia, Ivor Roberts says he sees no reason that Albania and Kosovo to become one state.

"I see no reason that after a while, why not, Albania and Kosovo to join in one state, if this is what they want,"  former British Ambassador said to B92.

According to him, the borders in the Balkans can be corrected for permanent peace.

"We always had this reaction. For example, after the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. After the Montenegro split from Serbia, and in the end, Kosovo. Also, a country that have not resolve its border issues can not join EU. At this point, the UK should get out from EU after a disagreement with three of itscountries," says Roberts.

He notes that those who fear mono-ethnic states should not get worryed.

"Those who say that the aim of drawing new boundaries should not be the establishment of mono-ethnic states, I say to those that the whole essence of this is that within those limits these people feels safe. There where borders create a sense of insecurity, instability and violence, these kind of borders have not a useful function," said the former ambassador.

For Roberts North of Kosovo must be returned to Serbia, and the Presevo Valley back to Kosovo.

"The borders initially should contribute to security and stability. This will last until when they will become irrelevant."
