Rare Videos of WWII: The Occupation and Liberation of Albania

These surprising videos show three important moments of the Albanian nation: the occupation by fascist Italy, the war against Germans and then the liberation of the country. The videos are posted online by British Pathé.

In the first video you can see Italian military deployment in April 1939. The journalist describes the landing "in this small kingdom in the Adriatic". Italians "urging opponents to surrender immediately or will be massacred from the air". "There are reports that the Albanians resisted the invasion, but the ratio is i Albanian to 40 to Italians", says the journalist. Then an Albanian delegation offers Italian king Victor Emmanuel the Albanian crown. The video presents the Italian greeting representatives, Count Ciano, who is said that "was welcomed by the whole population".

In the second video you can see the moment of the deployment of British forces in Albania for the first time during World War II. "These mountain warriors have inflicted head pain to the Germans and our commandos are there in order these pains become more intense," says the journalist. "The enemy was caught by surprise and commandos went down without any resistance," he adds. However, to open the way,  a Germans garnizion should be attacked. After the attack, given in this video, the reporter announces: "The garrison was completely destroyed, but not without consequences, although we suffered much less consequences. The contact has been established with partisans and paved the way for supplies to continue the work. "

In the third video you can see views after the liberation of Albania. Although the video is too long, there are no comments.
