Germany gives 3.5 million euros to protect the biodiversity of Prespa Lake

Tirana today signed an agreement with the German government for the protection of biodiversity in the region of Prespa Lake.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka  and the Ambassador of Germany in Tirana Helmut Hoffman. This agreement consists in the protection of this area and its development in the two countries, Albania and Macedonia.

"Fruitful cooperation with the German government in the environmental field. We continue to have an intensive cooperation," said Koka in his speech  explaining that the agreement with a value of 3.5 million euros, will bring a better management of forests and waters.

This project is a gift from the German state, which began in 2010 and just finished a very important area of the Albanian territory for the fact that is located in the border area.

The project consists on the ongoing project just finished on a better management of forests. The investments made have helped to alleviate poverty in the area, to sensitize the population and to have a better administration.


"This is a fact that the whole world knows and we need to protect and develop it", said Ambassador Hoffman, thanking Minister Koka for the work performed.
