Berati ne UNESCO since 2008 - Continues to Attract Foreign Visitors

Cultural heritage of Berati embodied in the characteristic neighborhoods of the city such as Mangalemi, Gorica, Kala, which boast museum houses, historic centers, churches and mosques continues to be the main cultural, architectural, historic, natural and tourist attraction of the city situated in the middle of Albania.

The cult object takes an important place in the cultural heritage of the city with churches, mosques and shrinks arousing the interest of visitors, either Albanians or foreigners. The cult object,  “Shën Evangjelizmoi” church, the second-category monument of culture in Berati’s castle neighborhood is open to believers and tourists.

The regional directorate of National Culture, Berat reports that partial restoration works have been carried out on one of the most attractive monuments.

The “Shën Evangjelizmoi” church, a cult object categorized as a second-category monument of culture has undergone a restoration which went through two stages.

The restoration works include covering the surrounding walls with tiles, repairing the stony wall in the damaged parts and cleaning up the two courtyards.

Berati has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
