A rare Mussle Species Appears in Drin Waters

Dreissena Polimorpha is a rare mussle that originates in the Caspian Sea, but  already has been spread across the European continent also at Drin river basin.

Its riproduction occurs in the period between March and October.

After the eggs hatch the larvae have a pelagic period of 10-days. Then they begin to take the form of an individual adult and descend lower and lower approaching sea floor.

This interesdting bivalve forms numerous colonies. They like to anchor on hard rocks or objects submerged in water, through one or more silk thread generated by internal glands called Biso. In aquariums has many beautiful colors.

In nature they form numerous and dense colonies.

Are widespread in Fierza Lake, especially from Kukës pool to Skavica and Zym, biologists who are studying this rare species to our waters says, ATA reports.
