General Director of State Police, Haki Çako, stated in in a press release at "Mother Teresa" Airport that “ State Police increased controls at border checkpoints to prevent the flow of asylum seekers. In the last 9 months Albania has been visited by 9 million citizens, 2.2 million of whom are foreigners."
He urged Albanians to respect the EU rules of movement and do not seek economic asylum because European Union countries doesn't provide it. He also stressed that the applications for asylum in EU countries will be accompanied by penalties.
