NATO to decrease aircraft number by half in Baltic mission


A total of 16 aircraft fly as part of the Baltic Air Policing mission located in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

NATO will decrease the number of aircraft in its Baltic Air Policing mission by half this fall, military spokesperson Jay Janzen has said.

According to reports in the Estonian media, Janzen said on Monday that the mission's sole aim was to defend NATO and European countries against air attacks.


"The number of aircraft in the Air Policing mission will decrease by half," he said, adding that NATO patrol flights had surged in recent months.

A total of 16 aircraft fly as part of the mission located in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Anadolu Agency reports.
