Shkodran Mustafi and Admir Mehmedi are the two football players from FYR Macedonia who will participate in the “Brazil 2014” world cup. Only these two Albanian ethnic football players participate in this world competition, as there are no representatives of the Macedonian ethnicity.

It’s a coincidence that Mustafi and Mehmedi are both originally from Gostivar, a beautiful city predominantly inhabited by Albanians and located in the west of the country.
In “Brazil 2014”, Mustafi will play for the German national team, while Mehmedi will play for the Swiss national team.

These football players are both sons of Albanian emigrants from this area, who had moved to these western European countries for a better life.

Admir Mehmedi, 23 years of age, was born in Gostivar. He moved to Switzerland along with his family. He first started to play for Bellinzona football club and than for Winterthur, by ending up in Zurich. Currently, he plays for the German club, Freiburg. He started to play for the Swiss national team at the age of 16, representing the Under 16 squad.

Shkodran Mustafi, the 22 year old Albanian from Gostivar was born in the German city of Bad Hersfeld. At a very young age, Mustafi dedicated himself to football, initially playing for small clubs and in 2006, he ended up at Hamburg and then Everton. From 2012, he has been playing for Sampdoria.

Admiri and Shkodrani are known as donors of Gostivari football club, which plays in the second league of the country. In several cases, they have helped this club with donations and other forms of support. /ibna/
