The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, received today (20.05) in a meeting the Special Representative of EU in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, who informed the president on the decision of the EU High Representative  for Foreign Policy and Security, Catherine Ashton to send to Kosovo an EU monitoring mission which will observe the early general elections in the country.
Baroness Ashton’s decision comes as a response to the letter sent by the president where she demanded the EU to monitor the June 8 elections, in order to guarantee a democratic election process in the whole of Kosovo.

Zbogar told the president that Mrs. Ashton’s reply stresses that an EU mission, similar to the monitoring mission which observed local government elections last year, will be sent to Kosovo to observe the elections.

“President Jahjaga praised the positive response of Baroness Ashton on the request for the international observers and said that a fair a normal process would help Kosovo in its integration path”, reads the statement released by the presidency.

President Jahjaga said that the early general elections in the country must be free and fair, where all the citizens will be able to vote freely./I.B.N.A/
