Albanian party BDI (Democratic Union for Integration) has warned that it can recognize the legitimacy of the newly elected president, George Ivanov, if FYR Macedonia becomes a NATO member in the months to come.
This party has now struck a coalition deal with the biggest Macedonian party, VMRO-DPMNE of current prime minister, Nikola Gruevski.

BDI demanded the election of a consensual president who had to be acceptable for all ethnic communities, but its proposal didn’t find the support of other Macedonian parties. This led this party to boycott the presidential elections and not to recognize any president which would come out of these elections.

“In September, we have a historical opportunity to become part of NATO. Our priority is the integration of the country in the NATO, because this is the basis of every other effort in advancing our issues. Our main priority is to put Macedonia and Albanians of Macedonia where they belong and we’re ready to make all sorts of compromises for the NATO integration”, declared for IBNA the spokesman of BDI, Bujar Osmani.
